  • Perfectionism

Western culture places a high value on certain traits, such as:

    • having high expectations for ourselves and others

    • being extremely well organised

    • meeting clearly defined goals

    • having a well-established routine.

There is nothing wrong with establishing these habits, however, they can reduce your flexibility in the face of difficulties which can put you at risk of psychological distress.

We can help you increase your psychological flexibility and reduce the intensity and duration of distress.

  • ADHD Assessments

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by persistent patterns of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity that interfere with day-to-day life.

Symptoms can include difficulty sustaining attention, forgetfulness, excessive fidgeting, and interrupting others. ADHD can affect academic and occupational performance, and interpersonal relationships.

Being diagnosed with ADHD can significantly improve academic, occupational, and social functioning by addressing difficulties with attention, memory, and impulsivity. It also facilitates access to necessary resources and special considerations in educational and work settings, offering crucial support.

  • Phobias

Phobias are excessive and irrational fears of specific objects or situations. You can develop a phobia about almost anything, however, common phobias usually make some sense from a survival perspective, e.g.:

    • height phobia (acrophobia)

    • spider phobia (arachnophobia)

    • snake phobia (ophidiophobia).

It is not entirely clear what causes a phobia to develop, but the good news is that phobias can be treated with exposure therapy.

  • Sleep Disturbance

Healthy sleep is vital for every system in the body.

Inadequate or poor-quality sleep can lead to poor performance at work or school, difficulty concentrating and remembering things and difficulty managing emotions.

Poor sleep is also a powerful risk factor for mental health concerns, including depression and anxiety.

We can help with first line treatment for sleep conditions like insomnia to work towards improving your sleep quality.

  • Anger

Anger exists on a spectrum from mild irritation to rage and is an emotion we all experience. However, some people can find themselves overwhelmed and preoccupied by minor frustrations, which can negatively impact their quality of life.

Anger isn’t a ‘bad’ emotion in itself. It has an important function – to help us organise our psychological resources to promote justice, remedy grievances, and protect ourselves and those we care about from harm.

When anger feels out of control, psychological treatment can help you manage it.
