Meet Aliza

Dr Aliza Werner-Seidler is an experienced Clinical Psychologist and accomplished leader in youth mental health.

She has over a decade of experience as a clinician and researcher, committed to working alongside her clients to understand and overcome the problems and challenges they face. As an Associate Professor at the Black Dog Institute, UNSW Sydney, Aliza leads a research program focused on prevention, early intervention and treatment of sleep difficulties, depression, and anxiety in young people. She has a particular interest in how poor sleep can contribute to and exacerbate mental illness, particularly among teenagers and young adults.

Aliza has published more than 100 peer-reviewed research articles in leading international journals in the area of clinical psychology and mental health, and has received significant investment of over $20M in her research. Aliza frequently presents her work both internationally and within Australia, trains clinicians in the delivery of a range of evidence-based treatments, and provides input and guidance to governments and peak bodies around ways to support and improve the mental health of young people.

Aliza is also committed to making evidence-based interventions more accessible to people who need them, and has developed several digital mental health tools, including Sleep Ninja and ClearlyMe, both of which have found to be effective in randomised controlled clinical trials.

Aliza’s expertise is often called upon by the media as a trusted leader in mental health, and she has been featured across outlets including The Sydney Morning Herald, The Australian, The Daily Telegraph, The Conversation, ABC News, Channel 9 News and SBS.

Aliza completed a Bachelor of Psychology with First Class Honours, a Master of Clinical Psychology and a PhD at the University of New South Wales. She completed post-doctoral training at the University of Cambridge and holds a full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia.
